A look at what is happening in my studio

"Warm December", oil on linen panel, 5X7

Happy New Year!!  "Warm December" is my last painting of 2011, and a return to my "Little Snippets" series.

This little studio painting was done from a pastel plein air study I did yesterday afternoon near Price Park

in Greensboro, North Carolina.  I love this location!  It is wild, natural, and not at all what you would

expect to find in the city limits of Greensboro.  The park is one of the properties protected by the

Piedmont Land Conservancy, is a habitat for wildlife, and has a beautiful library at the top of the hill.

I was drawn to this subject because of the warm foreground in shadow contrasting with the

cool tree line in the distance, and the streak of warm golden light that ran across the top of the ridge.
