A look at what is happening in my studio
#11 - Colors of Winter

"Colors of Winter", oil on linen panel, 5X7
The location of this little snippet is Price Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. As I have said before, this is one of my favorite places in Greensboro because of how natural and "wild" it is -- thank you Piedmont Land Conservancy.
This little painting was done using a much larger plein air pastel painting from a few years ago as reference. Many times I will use a plein air piece as reference for a much larger studio painting. This time I decided to go in the opposite direction. I am always drawn to the warm golden/red grasses of the park in winter, and I really liked the contrast between them and the cool colors of the distant tree line. The shadow pattern on the walking path also drew me to this image.
